Today Number of people traveling to developing country is bigger than developed country. If we see the trends, the reason of why people are traveling is completely different than yesterday. People want to spend some of their time in different locality where they never been, want to be part of different culture and tradition. They want to see how art is working in local communities, they want to learn how local food can cook. they also want to teach in schools and want to support what they need.

If we see the industry, Only few established tourism company is serving, and the fact is they only can’t handle this business. Good accommodation is not enough to facilitate tourist, Theywant to live in homestay also. You can’t say Mt. Everest is only enough to bring tourist in Nepal. Tourist want to see our jatra, our festival, They want to travel to small village in Lalitpur and want to plan a rice with local farmers.

All these point here to justify, Tourism is no more limited to few entity. Government can play vital role to develop infrastructures to support it, International agencies can play important role to make the competent environment, private sector is selling it to tourist, local people are serving. Every sector can contribute and earn from it. Think about School, Hospital, Transportation, local shops, local restaurant can easily facilitate the ecosystem.

There used to be the time, when Tourist confirm their itinerary before starting travel. They used to spends month to plan on everything. But today, people like to do instantly. They use google and travel portal to find what is good for today, and book instantly without talking with anyone. If you are good with technology, you can be there to connect travellers to service providers. You can be the one to suggest them what is good for them.

Rebuilding the nation after Disaster: Lession from Nepal Earthquake

There are lots of things that nation has to do to prepare for preventing from loss that might occurred from disaster. In only very few cases, Government can know when it happens. Disaster cause massive loss of resources, infrastructures, lives and property but not limited with tangible things, it destroy the image of that place which marked as No Go Zone. Which impacted long last, and it can’t be restored by funding/donation support you get from anywhere.

In April 25, We faced 7.8 magnitude of Earthquake, which became the massive devastation of losing more than 8000 lives and damaged more than 300000 houses. People live with after-shock for few next months. Because of that, Nepal was the subject of news for all kind of media. The pictures showing the worst situation and pain of people were on social media and internet for collecting the support for the needy people. Media and INGOs plays important role to gain support and grief which was kind of important things for rescue and restoration. But it was not helping eventually for long run, People recognized Nepal for big earthquake.
Country, which has important role in GDP of tourism sector has immersed with No Go Zone. It seems affected when we realized there was huge downfall on number of tourist who were coming to Nepal, although nation was back to normal life. We dig into some fact and we found, Our image has been quite changed and people still used to see us as same devastated image.
We agreed, We need the program and activities which will change the perspective of people from outside. We need to rebuild the trust of world as much as before. It was not easy, now we have to fight with all the established international media and powerful INGO to show how much we are right.

The idea we came with was, Creating the online platform which will be official statement about the status of place/destination after earthquake and the story of travellers who are coming in Nepal after earthquake. We knew that people will not completely believe on us if we just say Nepal is safe to Visit. They need proof, and the best evidence can be personal stories of one of them and picture. It was not just an idea which sounds well but the team that was formed from cross sector. It was combination of Government and Private Sector supported by International Agencies. We named it
One of the famous campaign of for NepalNow was “I AM IN NEPAL NOW” people taking selfie with playcard. The idea was adopted by industry, they asked their customer to do selfie and share in their social media with #nepalnow hashtag. So that their friend can see that their friends are enjoying their holiday in Nepal. There were also few other campaigns which seems interesting like “I WISH I WAS IN NEPAL NOW” and “I AM GOING TO NEPAL NOW”

This is one of the actions we took after crises, It doesn’t means its only way, there were lots of effort by individual people, communities and government to revive it for another life. But I learn one lessons, everyone should do something, Crises unite everyone, it teaches how you should fight. And the end it will make you more confident to do better than yesterday.

Every country are standing together to solve the biggest problem for everyone, which has been significantly positioned from ages. Poverty and inequality. UN, World Bank and other international organization has building program and supporting nations to make it effective.

One of the sector which can play the integral role to fulfill the mission is Tourism.

How big is the problem of poverty? There are about 700 million people living on less than $2 a day.

The only way we can achieve the success over this is by working with partners from the public and private sectors, civil society, academia and international organization which will increase the effectiveness and impact.

There are lots of evidence that shows tourism is the effective means which will make every individual participatory and get benefited by it. Tourism creates lots of job and opportunity for all kind of people and attracting foreign investment. Tourism enables people to gain job skills and professional experience, and promotes social mobility. Tourism also drives the development of infrastructure that is very important, like airports, roads and hotels, which connect economies to global value chains and increase trade.

If you see the role, Government and International Agencies can play the critical role to develop the infrastructure like Airports, Roads, Routes, where Foreign Investors and Big Business people can invest on Accommodation, transportation service, resources which is essential for tourism facility and activities, Univesities/Academias can produce productive human resource which of course always been backbone of effectiveness of service it need to sell to customer, CSO are crucial to ensure safety, security, and standardize. SME can market, sell and sustain ecosystem. All together we can see how it get platform for scope for all kinds.

The sector is powerful job creator, providing livelihoods and pathways out of poverty for millions, across genders, ages and skill levels. According to the WorldBank Group Presidnet Jim Yong Kim, Globally, one out of every 11 jobs is linked to travel and tourism. Research shows that tourism has almost twice as many women employers as other sectors. It also employs young people at about twice the rate of other industries. Which define inclusive growth.

Go through the example, Kenya has 14 percent of national economic output and 12 percent of total employment from Tourism sector. In the Maldives, tourism makes up more than 40 percent of the economy, it is about triple what it was 25 years ago. And is a major source of government revenue, helping finance people’s health and education. All the reports shows the chart is gaining height every year and now the people are spending more money in developing countries than developed countries.

For the developing country we need to focus on how we can involve every individual in this industry regardless of their platform and expertise. We have lots of hidden and unexplored things in local places. Every individuals are enough to tell about that place, build it better and protect it from extinct.
