For this, first the unions should change themselves, their uncomfortable organizational structure and their unrealistic hierarchal organizing patterns. The horizontal organizing behavior of technology explores the new relationship and in touches between reps and members no more traditional like.

It also found 25 percent of social network users surveyed said they became more active in a political issue after discussing it or reading posts about it, and 16 percent said they changed their views about an issue after discussing it or reading about it on the sites.

In Nepal, PM Baburam Bhattarai was one of the most active politicians in social network and web, and it plays crucial role for him to become prime minister. Now again to spectacle the faith from citizens he started twitter.

What Union Activist should be aware is, acceptance of ICT doesn’t guarantee for automatic results in increased worker militancy and engagement. The passions, patience and persistence strategy by union activists is required, as well as much experimentation. But the big problem of union is, they see ICT as simple communication tools using for communicate with in unions, broadcasting union message to members and other public, what they need to learn a cyberspace is a space, where people work, organize politically, are entertained and educated, and engage in many fields of human endeavor.

There is something common between FOSS movement and union movement: representation of civic society. Open source Software are the result of combine efforts of people from world for world which resembles natural analog with labor movement. There is certainly an ideological congruence: Open Source proves that people can work together to build complicated and sophisticated products without bosses and mechanisms for workplace discipline. We know a Debian[Ubuntu/Mint] a computer operating system based on Linux. Debian’s development model is democratic, and the work of more than a 1,000 volunteers all over the world is coordinated through transparent and decentralized methods. The strongest thing about FOSS is they are free. Free as a freedom that means freedom to use, freedom to copy, freedom to change, freedom to redistribute. “In the long run, making programs free is a step toward the post-scarcity world, where nobody will have to work very hard just to make a living. People will be free to devote themselves to activities that are fun, such as programming, after spending the necessary ten hours a week on required tasks such as legislation, family counseling, robot repair, and asteroid prospecting.”. Then here comes question, why, then, do most trade unions still buy proprietary software when a supportive community of activists is able to provide free, Copyleft software that fulfills the same requirements?

At the very least, trade unions should seriously consider moving to FOSS as a matter of policy. It is worth pointing out that the developers of the Obama campaign understand the cultural implications of new technologies, and released all campaign materials under a General Public License, giving the public the complete freedom in contents and materials. This step reflects open society, what we union activist have been fighting for, so my suggestion is to use Open Source and let’s build Open Knowledgeable Society

Social Development in CSIT

In glance, may this topic seem not familiar here with Technology student like you. But believe me it will get its place at last.  Let’s go on topic, what is Social Development, you can get different definition over the Internet. Whatever, Social development can be summarily described as the process of organizing human energies and activities at higher levels to achieve greater results. Social Development increases the utilization of human potential.

I remember one incident, when I was in first class of Bsc CSIT, we had introduction round, when my turn came I said like” My name is Prakash Neupane and I am from Butwal”, after me another guy also told he was from Butwal and similarly 2 other guys were also said like it. That made us attention with each other and we talked after class. But later we knew, actually none of us were exactly from Butwal, all of us were from nearby Butwal. Here come one question why we said same? May be the answer is, relation and uniformity.

3-4 years ago, when I was in program and someone asked me what are you persuading, I replied Bsc CSIT and he asked again What it means? And explained Bsc Computer Science and Information Technology.  But he again asked what is this? I explained every thing about CSIT. Still I couldn’t see much understanding over his face and may be finally he was neglecting. But I hoped someone should understand my first time word

Last month I was invited in talk program on Career Concern “Era of CSIT”  organized by Meeting Point. Every guest were there for promoting CSIT and exploring the scope of CSIT. Most of them are comparing our course with Engineering and voicing that we should get Er. as well,  they tried to convince viewers that we are better suited for developer and network person as engineering one. But I as a student felt like we have no identity, every time we were compared with other, who knew we are not only good in development and networking we are also good in e-Education, e-Tourism, e-Health, research, and many more. And this is my Identity.

Now we can say Social Development is for relation, uniformity, understanding and identity. It expand our strength for leading in initial discovery as we are new and later it will help to add strength to add values on existence. So we believe  Social Development elevate and accelerate the expansion and development of human capabilities in any field, leading to fresh discoveries, improvement of existing activities and capacity for greater results. Our practices toward the social Development in not other than the development of our capabilities. Beside raising the question and criticizing other, we should prove ourselves first, so no one can counter question on us.  And our social organizing procedures and practices are always stand for it. We sensed the need of social development and we moved on a way, I don’t say actually now we developed but we are organized some way, remember organizing is the basis and power of community, because it give title, hand, idea and many more so I can feel on gratified to start all this. This initiation leads us on more space, where we can feel our existence. We have lot of example of this, Few year ago when we searched CSIT in google, we hardly get any link and any info of our Computer Science and Information Technology. But now what we are getting, number of college’s website link, different portals and info-sites like bsccsit.com, csitnepal.com, csitan.org.np, bsccsitinnepal.blogspot.com different personal blog, community blog and many more. Next example, While my batch was studying in 2nd semester, we hardly participate in any programs but now what 2nd semester are doing, they are not just participating in program, they are even organizing in their own strength.  Another example I remember my last year, when I applied on some software Development company for job, most of them had asked me about CSIT, but now around 100 companies heard about CSIT and some are even mention CSIT while opening job. So these thing make us feel our strength, capacity and existence.

There are always some role models and players for Social Development, and those role players are always the voice of whole society. So try to be a voice, but it doesn’t means that you should be the prime minister to raise a voice. Anyone in society has equal rights and equal share to express. We are the citizen of democratic country and institution; we have every right that each legal citizen of this country have, so we have a freedom to analyses action, criticize them, appreciate them, motivate them. But Different is, if we appreciate and motivate them, they will continue and if we criticize obviously they will break down…… but I know there are some who never break down on what other blame they work on their way. While I am talking on these terms of social development, here comes some headshots what will be the personal development, answer is simply hard, It depends on you, some people say social development activities help us to be responsible, some say it help you to make social profile, some says it is just the way to ride on professional. So lets be the part of it, don’t wait for anybody, start yourself. Just you need to think differently, explore possibilities, you initiation will give everyone strength to rise new initiation. And lastly there will be more than 1000s hands to support your initiation.

e-Teaching, e-Learning and e-Education

There was a time when pupils went to Saint‘s home, served them and in return got some knowledge what they taught them. Later teacher and student relation was sluggishly changing into a time between 10 mins . That means after 10 mins in class, students can also be wise as teacher. But now a time is utterly changing, education systems are changing, education standards are being global. Where teacher and student are both equally accomplished constitutes, who are responsible for knowledge exploration. People believe school is just a platform for innovation where teacher and student use to be, so for learning either you can be in home or anyplace no matter what geographical area. And this is only possible from e-Education.

First go on the glimpse of development of modern education in Nepal. This formal education of Nepal was first start form 1853; but that was not for normal people, it was only for ruling family or relatives.    After the ended of autocratic Rana ruling in Nepal, general people began to study after 1951.In last 50-60 years the statistics shows the dramatics expansion in education facility in Nepal. According to those census data of 2001, adult literacy (age 15+) of the country was reported to be 48.2% where female: 34.6% and male: 62.2%, from about 5% in 1952–54. Beginning from about 300 schools and two colleges with about 10,000 students in 1951, there were 49,000 schools (including higher secondary), 415 colleges, five universities, and two academies of higher studies in 2001. Altogether 7.2 million students are enrolled in those schools and colleges who are served by more than 222,000 teachers.  And current census data of 2011, total adult literacy increased up to 60.3%, including 73% male and 48.3% female literacy and increasing of 1000s of schools and colleges. Is this enough? When will we reach on 100%? Does these data resemble for quality education? Is there equal educational distribution over the Nation? Why these is still unemployment after education? There are still number of questions. And I believe there are also numbers of answer of it. One of the most relevant answers may be stated as e-Education.

 

What is e?

It is quite common for us to hear some term eShopping, eBanking, eEntertainment and now this term come with education. The “e” stands for electronic and it relates to the use of the Internet to undertake the wide range of activities. Educators are now beginning to be used with terms like e- teaching, e-learning and e- education as it slightly becomes part of our regular vocabulary.

 

Who are e-Teachers?

e-Teachers are not just limited in some closed room sounds like inside the box, e-Teacher are the new generation of teachers who will work in an Internet environment in both regular and virtual classroom situations. e-Teachers collaborate, build and discover new learning communities and explore resources as they interact with information, materials and ideas with their students and colleagues.

 

What is e-Learning?

e-Learning is learning which takes place as a result of experiences and interaction in an Internet environment. It is not restricted to a regular school day and can take place in a variety of locations including home, school and community locations e.g. libraries, cafes etc.

 

What is e-Education?

e-Education involves e-Teaching and e-Learning along with the various administrative and strategic measures needed to support teaching and learning in an Internet environment. It will incorporate a local, regional, national and international view of education.

 

Why Technology in Education?

Technology is a cross-cutting resource that should be seen as a sustainable, accessible, and valuable means of supporting efforts to improve teaching, learning, school operations, and the education sector as a whole. This e-Education is making this world borderless, people from country like Nepal can also be part of some university like MIT, Standford University, Udacity . When I did some inquiry about the involvement of Nepali Student in some of international Universities, who make available the online education, the result was really interesting, lot of Nepali are still persuading these online education as well some are also teaching to other students from here too.

Exploring IT opportunities:1st University Industry Tie-up

KATHMANDU: The CSIT Association of Nepal (CSITAN) — an association of students studying Computer Science and Information Technology in various colleges organised the ‘1st University Industry Tie-up’ programme on April 7 at Smriti Bhawan, Tribhuvan University, Kritipur.

More than 200 participants attended the programme which was designed in three sessions — inauguration, presentation and interaction — to help the students of BSc CSIT explore the needs of industries that make use of information technology (IT) and let the industry know about the current scenario and situation of BSc CSIT students and the course itself.

Ganesh Shah, former Minister for Science and Technology and Prof Dr Subarna Shakya, Assistant Dean, Pulchowk Campus, Institute of Engineering inaugurated the programme.

Dipak Pudasaini from Amrit Science Campus introduced the BSc CSIT course to all participants and Dr Shakya informed about the need of the course in the university.

In the presentation, seven participating companies — Bajra and Bajra, Deerwalk, Ebperls, Hewaei, Mahoo Nepal, Young Innovative and Young Minds put forth their projects, and informed the students about the ways to apply for internship in their companies. In the interaction session students interacted with representatives of companies and dropped resumés for internship.

This event was supported by different CSIT colleges. The event was successful for it was able to highlight the industry’s need while collaborating with the industry even though all participants could not get an opportunity for internship.

Google’s Latest Technology

Last week of June has proven as the most demanding and unforgettable moment for all technology addicted peoples or better to say lovers. Google celebrate Google I/O in 27,28 and 29th of june, a day for conference/exploration of new technology of Google.   One of the best parts of it was also live and extended all over the world. We Kathmandu Google Developer Group also arranged the place for extended for 3 days. There was lot of things that make surprise and crazy all over the world.

Nexus 7

This is the straight challenge for Apple, Samsung , HTC and other counterparts to compete with this tablet. Nexus 7 is the tablet brought by Google, but like other Nexus-branded devices, this isn’t actually hardware manufactured by Google, it paired with Asus to design and manufacture its slim tablet. Why this is climbing toward the peak of discussion?

Lets start with it price, it worth about $199, which is unbelievable and incomparable with other tablet and smart phones . It’s hardware configuration is also impressive it is powered by a quad-core Tegra 3 processor with 1GB RAM and either 8GB ($199/£130) or 16GB ($249/£160) of onboard storage. The seven-inch 1200 x 800 HD backlit IPS display packs a respectable 216 pixels per inch onto the screen.

Inside, the Nexus 7 packs the usual assortment of features, including an accelerometer, magnetometer and yes, even a gyroscope and GPS chip, nicely timed to take advantage of Google Maps’ new offline mode for navigating when Wi-Fi isn’t available.

Finally what  I think is, the market Apple initially created will move toward pure broad consumer or Nexus7,  We  needs to keep in mind that more than 70% of the current use case of tablet is email and socialmedia(facebook, twitter, google+) in bedroom, class as well in bus. It is just a casual internet tool. Google is expanding it for much broader users through 7inch low priced model.

Apple will probably have to launch 7inh tablet, which may not be the best direction where Apple can change the game. As in physics, everything is under a law of the diffusion.

 

Project Glass

Another interesting and amazing invention is Project Glass. I can’t show how they presented it , They worked with some of the world’s top athletes, combined skydiving and mountain biking, and shared the experience — through their eyes — with the world. What we saw, they jumped from sky on the top of building and moved down through rope and reached to stage by cycle.

Today people think that google finally gave us a slightly deeper look at the wearable computer of our future. Inside it is the usual set of components you’d expect inside any mobile or usually smart phone. There’s a “powerful” CPU and “lots” ofRAMalongside an accelerometer, gyroscope and wireless radios for pulling in data. There’s a mic for voice commands, a speaker and a camera, which can also be controlled by the touchpad that lines the side of the wearable device. All of those components sit off to one side, though Google says they’re still well-balanced and actually lighter than some pairs of sunglasses.

The most interesting thing, it can wear in public area and indicating that personalization and style were concerns by a light blue pair, a white pair and a black pair. This make comfortable to choose best restaurant in new place, when you are hungry.

iPhone 4S

It is like a passion of this new generations’ to have iPhone. Apple introduced iPhone in 2007 for first time. And it became most successful technology and the evidence of this is a line of thousands of customers to be the first to buy the phones, which featured computing and Wi-Fi capabilities, along with a crisp, computer-like display on an innovative touch screen.

It constantly and continuously improves it and make new version with special features. Following this principle in October 2011, the company revealed an excitedly awaited new version of the device, the iPhone 4S.  It is the fifth generation of the iPhoneand retains the exterior design of its predecessor, the iPhone 4, but is host to a range of improved hardware specifications and software updates.

Some of the special feature make it more special and more demanded, the phone added a voice recognition system known as Siri, that recognized voice commands by users to schedule appointments, dictate text messages and conduct Web searches; and a cloud storage service named iCloud which is the easiest way to manage all your stuff, because it manages it all for you. iCloud stores your music, photos, apps, mail, contacts, calendars, documents, and more. And wirelessly pushes them to all your devices. It’s automatic, effortless, and seamless. The iSight camera just might be the best camera ever on a phone. And with all-new optics, it just might be the only camera you need. Because behind every shot, you’ve got 8-megapixel resolution and a custom lens with a larger f/2.4 aperture

Although the new phone was virtually indistinguishable on the outside from its predecessor, the iPhone 4, it was packed with better technical innards, including a more advanced camera. The phone also included a more powerful chip known as the A5, the same microprocessor that acts as the brains inside the iPad.
